BET Apologizes For Muting Usher’s Acceptance Speech At BET Awards

BET has apologized to Usher for muting a significant portion of his acceptance speech during the BET Awards. Usher received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles following a star-studded tribute featuring Childish Gambino, Victoria Monét, Coco Jones, and others. 

In his speech, Usher mentioned he had not prepared any remarks but liked to talk. However, when he began using profanity, the audio was cut for almost four minutes of his 13-minute speech. BET issued a statement to Billboard explaining that an audio malfunction during the live telecast caused parts of his speech to be muted unintentionally. 
They expressed their regret, emphasizing the honor of celebrating Usher with a tribute and his heartfelt speech, and extended their sincere apologies to him for the incident.
Social media buzzed with speculation about the censorship, with many assuming it was due to profanity.

Some even speculated he mentioned his relationship with Sean Diddy Combs, but this was quickly debunked by attendees and an uncensored clip of the full speech posted on BET’s YouTube channel. The award was presented to Usher by Antonio L.A. Reid and Babyface, co-founders of LaFace Records, who signed him at a young age. Usher accepted the honor on stage with his mentor Jermaine Dupri and others.
