Nipsey Hussle taught the gospel of ownership to his fans and followers before his terrible death in March 2019. His young children are being given the opportunity to pursue their own entrepreneurial endeavors four years after his passing. The future of The Marathon Clothing's brick-and-mortar store in south Los Angeles was discussed on the "Earn Your Leisure" podcast on Tuesday (March 14) by Nip's brother and business partner, Blacc Sam.
Blacc Sam revealed that the late rapper's 6-year-old son Kross Asghedom and 14-year-old daughter Emani Asghedom have been given ownership of the business and are free to operate it anyway they see fit in the future. He said it would strengthen the value of owning real estate and property and help them get ready for the future. The Marathon Apparel rights and a $1 million inheritance for each of Nip's children when they reach adulthood are also included in the deal. “When I say we own it, it’s in Hussle’s kids’ names,” Sam explained. “This is something their father worked for, and that they own, and that’s important to me. Also, just having a brick and mortar once again reinforced what Hussle told us and taught us.”
In June 2017, The Marathon Clothing opened their doors at the intersection of Crenshaw Boulevard and Slauson Avenue. On March 31, 2019, Hussle was shot and killed in the parking lot when he was standing outside the store. The physical store has since been shuttered and serves as a memorial to the Grammy Award-winning MC, but it still operates an online shop. In February 2023, Eric Holder Jr., his convicted killer, received a 60-year prison term.
Emani has paid tribute to her father in a number of ways since his passing, including voicing her feelings for him at her primary school graduation barely three months after he passed away. "I want to start by expressing my gratitude to my dad for always being there for me and to my mum for believing in me", she said. At her father's memorial service in April 2019, Emani entered the stage to pay respect to him but was overtaken with grief. Kross, who was 2 at the time, then took over and spoke gibberish to the crowd.
