Government  institutions  using  the  intellectual  property  of  Ghanaian  creatives  has  been  a  topic  of  discussion  after  the  reigning  government  used  clips  from  multi-talented  Ghanaian  musician  Kirani  Ayat’s  Guda  video

A  similar  incident  happened  about  two  years  ago  when  the  past  government  used  Worlasi’s  song  Nukata  in  their  2020  campaign.  Worlasi  called  out  the  party  and  asked  them  to  pay  up  for  using  his  song.  Speaking  on  3Music  TV’s  Culture  Daily,  Worlasi  revealed  he  hasn’t  received  payment  till  date.

Detailing  the  aftermath  of  the  event  Worlasi  said,  “After  my  tweet,  Rex  Omar  called  and  told  us  that  he  was  going  to  try  his  best  to  collect  the  monies  that  we  need  or  we  want  from  the  song  they  used  and  so  it  was  a  back  and  forth  with  me,  him,  my  previous  management  that  I  released  the  song  under  and  my  current  manager  at  that  moment  Mr  Mawuko  Kuadzi…I  mean  including  Hammer  of  the  Last  Two  as  well,  he  also  came  to  help  collect  these  monies.”

“The  last  time  I  heard  about  this  issue  I  think  it  was  more  than  a  year  ago  my  previous  manager  said  Rex  Omar  hasn’t  gotten  back  to  him,  till  date  I  haven’t  heard  anything”  he  added.

The  video  compiled  by  Ghana  Tourism  Authority  and  posted  by  the  President  of  Ghana  stated  in  a  press  release  that  they  procured  the  footage  Kirani  Ayat  is  claiming  ownership  of  from  a  creative  agency  in  2019  as  part  of  a  project.

Kirani  Ayat  has  responded  to  GTA’s  press  statement.
