He dared them to touch it. They couldn’t. So he took it home again. KiDi it was, Ghana’s Artiste of the Year a second time at the 5th annual 3Music Awards.
History said no one had won the prestigious gong twice going into the night of March 26, 2022. Cheeky KiDi did it- in some style too, becoming the first Ghanaian artiste to win consecutive Artiste of the Year prizes at a significant music awards event.
In fitting poetic justice, he climaxed the night with a fabulous performance that ended with him bagging the girl all the guys really wanted. That girl was Cina Soul by the way, who starred in a well-rehearsed love medley that also featured Akwaboah, Kelvyn Boy, and Camidoh.
Here at the Grand Arena, it seemed to be a changing of the guard with several new artistes blasting the biggest season hits. Yet again KiDi looked a cut above, sweeping that charged crowd off their feet with the songs that marked him as the most listened artiste across all music streaming platforms in 2021.
You could class him as Ghana music’s top dog now. He won six
awards, dominating both the Afrobeats and Reggae/Dancehall categories.
Dropping four hits in 2021, KiDi’s Touch It, was also the most-streamed song for a male artiste in the calendar. With eight of the Top 50 Ghanaian songs of the past two years, the crooner’s loud impact and industry sovereignty validated his deservedness of the night’s highest honour.
And so that’s the story of how the Golden Boy scooped gold at Ghana’s gold standard for music celebration, the 3Music Awards ’22. KiDi keeps the award, but does he get to keep Cina Soul for real too? I’ll be back. Pun intended.
