Gyakie emerged Woman of The Year when the fifth edition of the annual 3Music Awards Women’s Brunch aired on Ghana’s Independence Day and two days ahead of International Women’s Day.
She fought off fierce competition from Wendy Shay, Adina, Diana Hamilton, Ohemaa Mercy, Mona 4Reall, S3fa and Amarae to scoop the Holy Grail of awards fashioned in honour of women.
The Women’s Brunch event, held at the forecourt of the 3Music HQ, discussed the struggles of women in the music space under the theme Breaking the Bias. Several women were also honoured, including Constance Swaniker, Mrs Norkor Duah, Doreen Andoh and Esther Nyamekye, for their service to music and outstanding representation of women in arts.
But the night truly belonged to Gyakie who chalked the biggest feat of the night by emerging with the early prize for Woman of the Year.
It was in recognition of her achievements over the calendar year, having established herself as one of Ghana’s biggest music exports and arguably the most successful female newcomer ever in terms of global impact.
She earned the foremost streaming credits for a female artiste last year with at least three platinum-streaming songs across all digital service credits. It followed her successes with her breakthrough single Forever which also earned her a spot on the Billboard charts and massive recognition across the world.
Unsurprisingly, Gyakie was not in Ghana to personally receive the award. The starlet had travelled to the UK, along with some of the biggest stars from these shores, having been scheduled to perform across the diaspora to mark Ghana’s 65th Independence Day celebrations.
Her growing global demand and feats also justified her appearance on the list of the Top 50 Women In Music [Africa] released by the 3Music Awards Women’s Brunch. The Top 50 Women [Africa] list was officially published March 8, 2022, to commemorate International Women’s Day, and in honour of the accomplishments of African women in diversified fields of music show business.
